I think Val is falling into, I don’t think this has a name, Good Samaritan’s Curse? Where you involve yourself in a task trying to help, but even though you improve the probability of success, the task still fails, but now you’re on the hook for its failure. – That said, I think it’s neat (in a depressing way) how Val ends up mirroring Fallahter’s untrustable relation to the party. Let’s hope it ends up better.
