The part where Harry’s Slytherin part “won the argument” was yet another golden opportunity for Harry to realize that his decision not to kill all the dementors makes no sense and is not consistent with how he has been making the rest of his decisions.
But instead he thought about it backwards and came up with the conclusion that his insistence on continuing to help Bellatrix escape was incorrect (even though he thankfully did it anyway) just because it was inconsistent with his worse decision not to kill the dementors.
I think not doing the suicide commando as a child is a very reasonable thing to do.
